A Political Donor Network for Pro Choice Democratic Women in the North Carolina General Assembly

Lillian’s List of NC is a statewide donor network dedicated to providing financial, strategic, and political support to Democratic women serving in the North Carolina General Assembly, and new candidates, who are committed to reproductive freedom and equality for women.

We are modeled after EMILY’s List and work hard to increase the number and percentage of pro-choice Democratic women in the North Carolina General Assembly.  We recruit, train, support and promote these women with strong, smart, collective action.  North Carolina is currently ranked # 1 in the southeast in the percentage of Democratic women serving in the North Carolina General Assembly!

Lillian’s List 2009 Courage Award

Presented to

Representative
Susan Fisher

January 28, 2009

The award was presented by Jan Allen, co-founder of Lillian’s List.  The first recipient of this new Lillian’s List Award is someone who has recently stood up boldly for the core belief that all people should have access to the information and means necessary to make life’s profound decisions personally, responsibly, and privately.

Rep. Susan Fisher did just that in her fight to restore comprehensive sex education to North Carolina schools during the 2007/2008 legislative session.  From the beginning, Representative Fisher made clear that she was committed to restoring responsible sex education - not merely tinkering with the “abstinence only until marriage” language.

Representative Fisher wanted to restore a curriculum to our schools based on sound evidence not ideology. She was committed to providing young people with unbiased, life-saving information.

Governor Bev Perdue was the keynote speaker for this standing room only event.  More that 230 people attended the Lillian’s List Victory Breakfast on opening day of the 2009/2010 General Assembly, including all the Democratic women on the Council of State and the Lt. Governor.
