The pipeline - message from Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jennifer Watson Roberts
As a four-term Mecklenburg County Commissioner, I’ve worked to improve my community by strengthening schools, protecting the environment and bringing new business to Charlotte. Now, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve been inspired by my service to pursue a seat in the U.S. Congress!
I know firsthand that women face unique obstacles to serving in public office, like coordinating childcare during meetings. And although women make up more than half the population, often our voices aren’t at the table when important decisions are made. Supporting Lillian’s List is one way I work to change this imbalance, giving more pro-choice, Democratic women across our state the training and support that it takes to win campaigns.
Without an existing power structure, women have to work hard to build networks of mentors and campaign experts. Lillian’s List gives women the tools they need to run and win. Having attended a training myself, I can attest to the value that Lillian’s List seminars bring to a campaign. Not only do women get real facts on campaign strategy, fundraising and messaging, they also have the chance to meet other women across the state who are also interested in public service.
I’m committed to bringing more women’s voices to the table this election season. Pursuing a local office was the first step for me, and I hope you’re considering a run this year or in the future, too. Now is a critical time for North Carolina, and we can’t afford to slide backwards. Please join me in supporting progressive women in public office by becoming a Lillian’s List member today.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Watson Roberts
Mecklenburg County Commissioner
Candidate for U.S. 9th Congressional District
P.S. I hope to see you at the Lillian’s List 2012 Campaign Kickoff luncheon on Wednesday, March 21 in Raleigh. Being surrounded by other women public servants and their supporters is such an inspiring experience.
