What does Lillian's List do?

Lillian's List of NC helps elect pro-choice Democratic women who are running for election to the North Carolina General Assembly and statewide offices by recruiting and funding viable women candidates; helping them to build and run effective campaigns; and mobilizing women voters to help elect progressive Democrats up and down the ticket across the state.

How does Lillian's List work?

Lillian’s List recruits and identifies viable pro-choice Democratic women candidates for the General Assembly, the Council of State and the Governor’s office and recommends these candidates to our members for support.

Recommendations are sent to more than 1,000 Lillian’s List members throughout the election cycle. These mailings include profiles that explain each candidate's background and views on a variety of key issues. Lillian’s List members choose which campaigns to which to contribute. Contributions are sent directly to the candidates’ campaign.

How does Lillian's List select candidates to support?

Candidates recommended by Lillian’s List are interviewed by our Candidate Committee to assess their potential and the viability of the campaign. It is also important to Lillian's List that featured candidates share our members' progressive values.

How does Lillian's List help its candidates?

In addition to providing financial support to candidates, Lillian’s List partners with EMILY’s List in Washington, D.C. and Planned Parenthood of NC to train candidates and their campaign staff. 

Why should I contribute to candidates through Lillian's List?

By gathering all our members' contributions, Lillian’s List can give pro-choice Democratic women's campaigns a bigger cash boost and provide maximum political impact. Since Lillian’s List recommends viable, pro-choice Democratic women from across the state, Lillian’s List members become familiar with candidates whom they might not otherwise hear about. Please note that contributions made to candidates through Lillian’s List are sent directly to their campaigns.

Are contributions to Lillian's List and Lillian's List recommended candidates tax deductible?

Lillian’s List is registered with the NC State Board of Elections as a political action committee. Contributions to political entities and candidates are not deductible for federal or state income tax purposes.

Are there limits to how much I can contribute to Lillian's List?

Lillian’s List can accept up to $4,000 from an individual between a primary and general election and another $4,000 between a general election and a primary, meaning an individual can contribute $8,000 during the two-year election cycle for a General Assembly or Council of State seat.

Are there limits to how much I can contribute to candidates?

Under state law, individuals may contribute a maximum of $4,000 per election -- primary, general, or runoff -- to an NC candidate or the candidate's authorized committee.

How do I become a member of Lillian's List?

You can join Lillian’s List by contributing $50 or more to Lillian’s List and pledging to contribute $50 to at least two recommended candidates. Join now!
