Environmental Resources
Alice is a co-chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee. Her District is rich in environmentally important wetlands and waterways. She is an active supporter of legislation to protect and preserve our state’s valuable resources. Not only are clean water, clean air, open spaces and farmlands are basic to our quality of life, they are necessary to economic growth. For these reasons, she has lead the way in working to help local governments address critical water and sewer needs, fund land preservation efforts; and develop alternative fuels. She believes that the delicate balance of a healthy environment and a strong economy can be achieved.

Openness, Transparency and Making Government Work for North Carolinians
Throughout her life Alice Underhill has been dedicated to the goal of maintaining good government at all levels in North Carolina and making it work for the people of this state. She is committed to reform for openness, transparency, and ethics in government. She has been a leader in help passing some of the strongest ethics in government, lobbying and campaign finance laws of any state in the nation. She was recently honored as one of thirty-two legislators receiving the ‘Sunshine Award’ for superior campaign finance reports. As a legislator she is extremely conscientious about the importance of constituent service and her role as a liaison for her constituents with state government. She is committed to helping them receive the information or services they need. |
