Alice L. Bordsen
NC House District 63
Alamance County
Why it Matters
Four-term State Representative and former city council member, Alice is a lawyer, real estate broker, and former librarian who was gradually drawn to public service as her professional experience expanded. She has devoted her public life to the creation of fair and just public policy.
She fights to keep jobs and to create new employment opportunities in this difficult economy, to use smarter strategies as we strengthen public education, and to fiercely protect our public university system. They are our most important economic drivers.
Alice is a key player in budget development and has influence in the committees of Aging, Education, Juvenile Justice. She is a leader in efforts to make our communities safer, to reduce youth crime, and to safely reduce our prison population. Additionally, she serves as co-chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Justice and Public Safety.

Justice and Juvenile Justice in North Carolina
Alice’s goal is for safe communities in North Carolina, but – at the same time – smart and effective use of public dollars. To accomplish both, she has brought Justice Reinvestment to North Carolina – an initiative which assists states to develop data-driven strategies to reduce our prison population. Additionally, North Carolina is the only state that always tries 16- and 17- year olds as adults in criminal court. She is committed to increasing that age and reducing youth crime through use of appropriate discipline in the appropriate place. As co-chair of Appropriations for Justice and Public Safety and chair of Juvenile Justice, she is well positioned to truly make improvement in our increasing prison population, our juvenile crime rate, and to increase public safety. |
Jobs and the Economy
Representative Bordsen understands that the economic downturn has mean hard times for too many people. She has a proven record in the General Assembly: 1. she works to create more, better paying jobs. 2. She has supported tax credits to small businesses offering health insurance to their employees. 3. She continues to support raising the minimum wage, supporting the state’s lowest-paid workers. Representative Bordsen seeks to ensure that jobs for Alamance citizens and all North Carolinians are the priority of the General Assembly and that all possible measures are taken to bring our economy is brought back to good health.

Preserving Natural Resources
Alice has sought to preserve our environment without stifling local business and workers’ ability to find jobs. Through her work with the Haw River Trail, her conservation efforts, and her work to facilitate the development of Jordan Lake rules, Alice was able to broker responsible environmental outcomes where everyone wins. She works hard to ensure that North Carolinians are responsible stewards of the environment and that our citizens can better control their own environment. She strongly supports conservation, preservation, sustainable communities and the economically-sound opportunities of this unity. |
